About the Job
The Devcon Programming Lead is not someone who single-handedly decides all the content presented at Devcon.
Instead, this role is about designing, improving, and executing inclusive processes that allow the Ethereum community to collaboratively shape Devcon’s program. You’ll work closely with community reviewers, speakers, and the broader Devcon team to ensure fair representation of the ecosystem’s most important topics, challenges, and voices.
This is a high-impact operational role. While Devcon is about reconnecting in person, the program itself has a lasting influence on the Ethereum ecosystem—and this role plays a critical part in shaping that impact.
Devcon is a conference for the community, by the community. Anyone can apply to speak through an open process, and we continually aim to improve how community members are involved in reviewing and selecting content.
Key Responsibilities
Process Design & Execution
- Review the current programming process, iterate with improvements, and execute it end-to-end
- Design and manage:
- Application process (how and when people apply, submission requirements, timelines)
- Review process, ensuring fairness, transparency, and timely decisions
- Scheduling & room assignment methodology, minimizing overlap of similar topics and matching popular talks with appropriate room sizes
Community Review Coordination
- Source and onboard volunteer community reviewers
- Organize reviewers into groups based on expertise and track alignment
- Coordinate review efforts across timelines, tools, and communication channels
- Ensure balanced representation of the Ethereum ecosystem
Speaker & Program Management
- Manage speaker communications and logistics throughout the year
- Facilitate feedback loops:
- Provide feedback to speakers
- Collect insights on the overall program for future improvement
Operations & Collaboration
- Operate and master conference tooling (e.g., Pretalx)
- Coordinate extensively via email, Telegram, and internal tools
- Collaborate closely with the broader Devcon and EF teams
- Proactively identify and unblock issues affecting programming and other team members
Desired Skills & Experience
Motivated
- Passionate about Ethereum as a movement and its potential for positive global impact
- Deeply values high-quality Devcon programming and its influence on the ecosystem
- Detail-oriented and quality-driven, with a perfectionist mindset when it matters
- Inspired by the expectation that EF-hosted events set a high standard
- Willing to support broader team initiatives beyond programming
Qualified
- Familiar with the Ethereum ecosystem, its topics, and its diverse communities
- Prior attendance at (or involvement in organizing) Ethereum or related events is strongly preferred
- Strong operational mindset—comfortable with coordination-heavy work, systems, and process execution
- Skilled at managing expectations across:
- Volunteer reviewers
- Applicants awaiting decisions
- Rejected or dissatisfied speakers
- Able to remain neutral under pressure, enforce rules fairly, and say “no” when required
- Capable of understanding both technical and non-technical topics at a high level
- Effective under tight deadlines and evolving constraints common in event planning
- Proactive problem-solver who removes blockers for themselves and others
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ownership mentality: tasks are delivered well and on time
- Comfortable working with multicultural, globally distributed teams
- Experience organizing events is a strong plus
Logistics & Availability
- Fully remote role, with in-person participation required during Devcon
- Contract role with monthly billed hours (varies by month)
- Time commitment: ~20 hours/week starting April 2026. Ramping to full-time from June 2026 as Devcon approaches.
- Flexibility to work nights and weekends, especially leading up to and during the event
- Expected availability across global time zones
- Familiarity (or willingness to learn) tools such as:
- Notion, Telegram, Mattermost, Google Docs, Pretalx
- Must hold a valid passport and be able to travel
- Willing and able to travel to Mumbai, India, and support Devcon on-site in Q4 2026
- Comfortable working with a fully remote, globally distributed team
