Rust developer

Rust developer/software engineer at NLnet foundation

Are you fluent in Rust and want to have an impact with your skills? For its Amsterdam office, NLnet is looking for an enthusiastic and security minded software developer to be part of its team. You will join the team responsible for the development and operation of the (Rust based) backend through which we administer our open source grant programmes, and which integrates with our website. And everything else needed to efficiently manage the lifecycle of projects and orchestrate the involvement of our partners.

NLnet is a public benefit organisation established in 1989. As a small foundation with a big mission we work with hundreds of free and open source projects from around the world on all layers of technology and with a network of trusted support partners. You make the entire ecosystem run efficient and secure, delivering a solid experience for everyone involved. This means designing and developing new features together with your colleagues, maintaining and improving code quality and usability, tracking issues and feature requests, integrating with external systems where needed, etc.

You do things well, and 'make stuff happen'. You don't like fragile software that breaks, and you are available for at least 4 days per week. You communicate efficiently in English (our team is international, and we work with partners and projects across the globe). You have:

• Affinity with free and open source software
• (At least 2 years) experience with writing Rust
• Knowledge about testing practices, continuous integration, REST APIs and software engineering in general
• Security mindset. We are serious about privacy and security and for good reasons.
• At least a latent interest in software reproducibility (knowledge of Nix is a bonus)

You will have a responsible and rewarding job in a hard working not-for-profit, serving the free and open source community to the best of your abilities together with your colleagues. Your contribution is of great importance to make everything run smoothly, and in return you will have a lot of room to deepen your skills as a professional software engineer. As a grantmaker we directly work with some of the very best people in technology, and see what they come up with before almost anyone else — and you will learn every day. You will have the opportunity to dive into interesting projects and engage with state of the art technology.

If you are passionate about free and open source software, and believe that we should not wait for others to fix the problems of technology today - then this is the ideal position for you!

Offer

We offer:

• an attractive market-based salary based on knowledge and experience,
• lots of responsibility and room for personal growth and open source contributions,
• work in an exciting international context with cutting edge technology and an amazing community,
• a full travel allowance,
• possibility to work remotely part of the time,
• 27 vacation days and the possibility to accrue additional days,
• an excellent pension scheme: NLnet pays 67% of the premium,
• space for education and training,
• laptop,
• reimbursement for (mobile) phone,
• a gross allowance per month for an internet subscription at home.

Our office is in Amsterdam. We can discuss financial support for relocation to the Amsterdam region, but we don't have time to go through a lengthy visum procedure. You should therefore already live and work (or recently finished your studies) within the EU Schengen zone.
