Zerion is hiring a Senior Backend Engineer to design and operate distributed systems, Web3 integrations, and API platform services.

About the Role

The backend team builds the systems behind Zerion products and customer-facing API solutions. The role owns services from architecture through monitoring and long-term reliability.

The team uses AI as a routine part of engineering work and expects direct collaboration with product teams and clients building on the API.

Responsibilities

Core Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain scalable distributed backend systems.
• Own backend services from architecture and implementation through observability and reliability.
• Shape product decisions with product and engineering peers.
• Turn ambiguous client API requests into concrete proposals and delivery plans.
• Build Web3 platform components, protocol integrations, new-chain support, and reliable smart-contract interactions.
• Maintain high standards for code quality, performance, security, and user experience.
• Use AI in design, review, debugging, and delivery workflows.
• Contribute to technical reviews, discussions, and mentoring.

Requirements

Required Experience and Skills

• At least five years of experience designing and building distributed backend systems.
• Strong knowledge of algorithms, data structures, and software-design patterns.
• Ability to work directly with customers and turn vague problems into concrete solutions.
• Daily hands-on use of AI in engineering work and the judgment to understand its limitations.
• Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, PostgreSQL, MongoDB or Cassandra, observability tooling, AWS, and Python 3.
• Strong ownership, proactive communication, pragmatic decision making, and adaptability in a distributed startup.

Preferred Qualifications

• Golang expertise.
• Hands-on experience with blockchain systems, dApps, or smart contracts.
• Startup experience and a time zone close to Europe.
