Kraken is hiring a remote Sr. Manager, Product and Regional Risk in Ireland to lead the regulated entity's risk function and serve as its Central Bank of Ireland PCF-14 Chief Risk Officer.
About the Role
The Enterprise Risk Team serves as a strategic second line of defense across Kraken, maintaining visibility into the risk landscape and helping the organization operate within its risk appetite while enabling sustainable growth.
This role owns the design, implementation, and ongoing effectiveness of the regulated entity's enterprise risk management framework. It focuses on risk identification, assessment, monitoring, governance, and reporting across Kraken's products and regional markets.
The position is designated PCF-14 under the Central Bank of Ireland Fitness and Probity regime. Appointment requires Central Bank of Ireland and Board approval, and candidates must be based in or willing to relocate to the Republic of Ireland and be legally authorized to work there.
Responsibilities
Core Responsibilities
- Conduct and maintain risk assessments and risk and control self-assessments across core and emerging products, identifying exposures and recommending controls and mitigants.
- Assess risk for regional entities with global and regional stakeholders across regulatory, operational, market, liquidity, safeguarding, outsourcing, ICT, and conduct risk.
- Own the regulated entity risk management framework, including risk appetite, taxonomy, governance structures, key risk indicators, monitoring, and reporting.
- Ensure the framework aligns with MiCAR, E-Money Regulations, DORA, and other applicable regulatory obligations.
- Partner with Product and Engineering to embed risk considerations early in the product development lifecycle.
- Identify and escalate emerging risks so that senior management, the Board, and governance bodies receive timely visibility.
- Use GRC tooling, automation, and data analytics to scale risk monitoring and reporting.
- Monitor regulatory developments that may affect Kraken's product or regional risk profile.
- Serve as the primary risk contact for the Central Bank of Ireland and other relevant regulators.
- Lead Board and committee reporting and support regulatory submissions, reviews, and inspections.
- Prepare concise reporting that explains the principal drivers of Kraken's risk landscape.
- Promote risk awareness through cross-functional collaboration, training, and education.
Requirements
Required Experience and Skills
- At least seven years of enterprise risk management or related experience, ideally in financial services, fintech, crypto, or a top-tier consulting or audit firm.
- Strong knowledge of risk frameworks, risk assessment methodologies, and risk and control self-assessments.
- Ability to translate complex risk findings into practical and actionable recommendations.
- Strong familiarity with digital-asset markets and MiCAR obligations.
- Experience using technology, automation, and data to build scalable risk programs.
- Strong analytical, written, verbal, executive-presentation, and stakeholder-management skills.
- Ability to operate independently, manage competing priorities, and work across Product, Engineering, Compliance, Legal, and Finance.
- Current residence in or willingness to relocate to the Republic of Ireland, with legal authorization to work there.
- Ability to satisfy Central Bank of Ireland and Board approval requirements for the PCF-14 appointment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge of the crypto and digital-assets landscape, including Kraken's products and competitive environment.
- Experience using a governance, risk, and compliance platform.
