About the Grant
Geode Labs is a spin-out organization from the Ethereum Foundation dedicated to global Ethereum ecosystem development. Formerly the Generalist Ecosystem Development team within the EF, we supported Ethereum's growth through organization building, community development, developer support, and university and educational programs.
Through the Geode Grants Program, we continue this mission by funding grassroots initiatives that strengthen local ecosystems and expand Ethereum's reach worldwide.
What We Fund:
Community Building & Ecosystem Growth
- Local Ethereum communities fostering builder networks and knowledge sharing;
- Regional developer communities creating sustainable technical ecosystems;
- University blockchain clubs and research initiatives advancing Ethereum education;
- Events that catalyze collaboration: hacker houses, pop-up cities, hackathons, and workshops.
Research & Adoption
- User adoption research uncovering real-world needs and barriers;
- Regional ecosystem analyses documenting growth patterns and opportunities;
- Studies on how Ethereum solves problems in specific geographic or cultural contexts.
Products & Infrastructure
- Tools and applications that lower barriers to Ethereum usage;
- Developer tooling that improves the builder experience;
- Solutions addressing real problems for users in specific contexts.
How to Apply
Before You Apply:
- Review what we fund to understand what we prioritize, explore examples of previously funded projects in our grants page.
- Check out the Local Ethereum newsletter to see what kind of opportunities in the space.
Application Process:
- Submit your proposal with clear objectives, budget, timeline, and impact metrics.
- Evaluation period (typically 2 weeks) where we assess fit and feasibility.
- Feedback round for promising applications that need refinement.
- Funding decision with clear reasoning, whether approved or declined.
Who Should Apply
We're looking for:
- Community organizers building sustainable local Ethereum ecosystems;
- Educators making blockchain accessible to new audiences;
- Researchers documenting adoption patterns and user needs;
- Developers creating tools that solve real problems for real users;
- University groups advancing Ethereum R&D and student engagement.
and with
- Specific, achievable goals with realistic timelines;
- Budgets that reflect actual costs, not inflated estimates;
- Track record of execution (if you have one) or compelling plan (if you're new);
- Clear understanding of your local ecosystem and how your work fits within it;
- Measurable outcomes that demonstrate real impact
Ready to Build?
- If your work contributes to Ethereum's geographic decentralization, cultural diversity, and grassroots strength.
- If you're building real communities, solving real problems, and creating lasting impact, we want to hear from you.
